The Karate Kid: Daniel is the REAL Bully???
Lets get something straight, when I first heard about this I was in disbelief. I didn't think this was a legitimate argument about the original Karate Kid. I thought to myself, "This is probably just a fan made cut of the movie."
But here I am really wanting to see that movie again, just to remind myself that this is just a bunch of arguments of facts taken out of context. What gets me is the explanation that Johnny is not the villain, instead is just a flawed person, but trying to get his life together. The points in these videos are somewhat valid, but it can't be... I mean, I know this movie... One of those, 'I watched it as a kid and it spoke to me' type of movies for me. Ok, I am going to watch this video again, just to hear out his arguments again.
Trailer Park RECOMMENDATION - "The Martian"
Now, I have not seen the movie, and therefore I can't tell you if it is any good or not. However, I can recommend you this trailer. This is actually the second trailer they have released. I am only recommending this one over the first one, because I feel as if it properly sets up the movie. But that first trailer was also a doosey and is also highly recommended. If you want a long drawn out explanation of why I like this so much, see the "Rant" below the trailer.
Rant:
In case you are not aware, I am a bit of a nerd. Of all movie genres, science fiction is my favorite. I like the more realistic science fiction the best. To me science fiction is at its best when you read a story and think wow, "in x amount of years, this could really happen."
One day, as I was checking out my 'geek' websites, I ran across the first trailer for "The Martian". I had heard of the book before in one of those, 'The Next Best Science Fiction Book Written in the Last 10 Years' type of lists. It was either mentioned, or the top of the list. I had it on a list of science fiction books I wanted to read (I don't read books often, but when I do, I try to make it count). I Also liked that the book was written in 2011. If by some 'off chance' the writer used actual science, it wouldn't be outdated. But other then that and a brief synopsis, I didn't really know much about the book. It wasn't on top of my things to do, it was more like something I had written down and hoped someday I would have time to read to see what all the hype was about. I had almost forgotten about it...
When I first saw that there was a trailer, I didn't even correlate it with the book. I just saw it as the next "Matt Damon movie". The man puts out solid work, so I would, at the very least, check out the trailer. And it wasn't until the second time I saw the trailer that I remembered that this was about that book I had read about. Needless to say, the trailer blew me away. I had to know more. How did Mark Watney get himself in such a pickle. But I couldn't just ruin the ride a great story will give you. I've had that rule for years. I had to see the movie before any spoilers gave away the story. I'm not going to tell you I have never broken the rule. But every time I have, I have regretted it. So I really try to not read any spoilers. Now there was one loophole. The book.
The book gives me the ORIGINAL story, with all its raw intent. Is it the same as watching the pretty special effects a movie would give you? No. But it will give you a deeper dive into the characters and the story that a movie just can't give you due to time constraints. Plus if the book is any good, it gives me a chance to be a bit of a snob when I see it and say, "Well, that part was different from the book".
I hadn't read a really good book in a while, so I turned to the iTunes store. It took me a couple of days to really get into the book. But once I got used to the 'entry log' type of writing, I was hooked ('entry log' type of writing is not used for the entire book, but for most of it). This book is not perfect, but it is a hell of a fucking book. Mark Watney explains how he is thinking through his problems, and that can get a little too scientific, but it is the science that brings a certain authority to the book that lets you think, "in x amount of years, this could really happen".

Ok, I've given it another look, and there definitely is a lot of wiggle room. I mean, you could make the case for Daniel being the crazed psychopath, but like I said, it is a bunch of stuff taken out of context. Not to mention that the movie is not just about Daniel's conflict with Johnny, it is also about the relationship between Daniel and Mr. Miyagi. So while this doesn't change the movie for me entirely, this was fun to watch though. Sidenote - The guy that plays Johnny (William Zabka) was hilarious in "How I Met Your Mother".
I guess this can go down as one of the greatest movie 'Fan Theories". And in case you were thinking, "What other movie 'Fan Theories' are there?" here is a list of 10 from WatchMojo:
